The History of Rockport

This is what Rockport hope to introduce to the market when first designing their line of footwear. Established in 1971 in a small New England Coastal town, this brand was founded by a father and son duo - Saul and Bruce Katz.

With a goal to produce footwear that perfectly combines comfort and style, they got to work designing their range of footwear that powers the journey of everyday life.

Their breakthrough came with the introduction of the first Rockport shoe, the "Country Walker," in 1973. This shoe was a game-changer, featuring advanced materials that provided exceptional comfort without sacrificing style. The success of the Country Walker set the stage for Rockport's reputation as a pioneer in walking comfort.

Rockport Milestones

1971: Rockport was established by a father-and-son team, Saul and Bruce Katz, in their hometown of Rockport, Massachusetts.

1983: Rockport launched DresSports, the first ever classic dress shoe with an athletic sole.

1990: Rockport executive, Tony Post, completed the NYC Marathon wearing DresSports.

1994: Rockport was named the official boat shoe of the Whitbread Round-the-World Yacht Race.

2005: Rockport introduced machine washable styles for men and women.

2013: Total Motion technology is introduced into men’s and women’s collections.

2018: Rockport introduced its “Let's Walk” technology, called Pulsetech.

2023: Authentic Brands Group acquired Rockport.
