It all began when a man named Randy Merrell began designing and manufacturing boots for what we like to call, outdoor enthusiasts. This talented gentleman had experience in crafting industrial footwear as well as handmade cowboy boots. Thereafter, he decided to try his hand at hiking boots. He began manufacturing hiking boots at home in Vernal, Utah, with fine craftsmanship, meaning that these boots had a waiting period of about six months.
Just like that, word spread, and these hiking boots became well known for being the best boots to hike in.
And of course, this caught the eyes of former ski company executives Clark Matis and John Schweizer. Together with Randy’s craftmanship and Matis and Schweizer’s industry experience, an affordable and durable hiking boot was born. This team, the Merrell team, believed in a no-compromise approach – meaning that these boots were made to last a decade. The combination of American Cowboy boot technology along with Italian boot manufacturing processes meant that these boots were made to survive even the most treacherous terrains.
This core philosophy only grew and strengthened over time, and today Merrell has branched out into manufacturing comfortable hiking boots and trail running footwear for both men and women, yet the original Wilderness boot with the blue laces is still available in certain countries today.
Merrell has grown exponentially and has become a brand that encourages people to seek adventure within nature. The brand believes in pushing oneself passed their limits, and living a life filled with fitness and nature. Nothing will hold you back any longer, no trail will be too long or terrain too rocky because when you are wearing a pair of Merrell footwear, you can move mountains.

Our exceptional team members are Tracey, who joined in the opening year of the store in 2018, Jane our store manager who joined in 2019, and Portia, our newest member who joined in 2021. Our team is customer service orientated, and we strive to make each customer interaction a friendly and welcoming one. We are always willing to go the extra mile and satisfy the footwear needs of the customers, hopefully leaving them with a smile on their faces.
Although our store is a fairly new addition to Access Park, the centre itself has been around for many years, attracting customers from all walks of life, as we are a "one of a kind" shopping complex in our vicinity.
We cater to a wide variety of clientele, from fashion lovers to those who require formal footwear. But we are frequented mostly by the outdoor adventurer, hence we boast a wide variety of Merrell footwear to suit everyone's outdoor needs, whether it be for walking, running, hiking, or trekking.
These are a few recommendations from our knowledgeable staff. For running, we recommend the Merrell Agility Peak 4. This design has a cushioned midsole, with a grippy Vibram outsole that protects even the most rugged trails. It has a breathable mesh lining, a jacquard upper allowing for durable, lightweight protection, a Padded collar allowing for stability when running, a protective toe cap, integrated lacing systems for a glove-like fit, an external rear sling that locks in the heel, a removable EVA insole, and a rock plate for protection.
For hiking, we recommend the Merrell Intercept. This design comprises a full grain leather upper, a bellows tongue which keeps debris out, an abrasion-resistant toe cap, a breathable mesh lining, M-Select FRESH which naturally prevents odour before it starts, and finally an Ortholite® Anatomical Footbed.
Alternatively, the Merrell Forestbound Mid WP is another excellent hiking boot. In addition to its durable and breathable lining materials, it also comprises waterproof PU coated leather on the upper, as well as a Kinetic Fit™ BASE insole which is contoured like your foot and provides flexible, intuitive support for the connected and protected movement.
